Deng Xiangzheng

 

Dr. Xiangzheng Deng is a Second-Level Researcher and Doctoral Supervisor at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He also holds the positions of Distinguished Researcher at CAS, Professor at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Leading Talent in the National Ten Thousand Talents Program, and Principal Investigator of the Innovation Group Project under the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Dr. Deng serves as the Executive Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Land Surface Pattern and Simulation, the Director of the Research Center for Land Surface Environment Management, and Principal Investigator of the first National Key Research and Development Program. He has led over 40 significant projects and research topics, including major research initiatives funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In addition, Dr. Deng is the Associate Editor of Resources, Conservation & Recycling and an editor for Regional Environmental Change. He is also on the editorial boards of several prestigious journals, including the Journal of Management Sciences in China. Dr. Deng has published more than 350 papers, which have been cited over 18,000 times. He has frequently been recognized as a "Highly Cited Scientist" globally.

Geng Yong

Chair Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Distinguished Professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program by the Ministry of Education

Recipient of the National Distinguished Youth Fund (rated as excellent in post-evaluation)

Co-Director of the Basic Science Center of the National Natural Science Foundation of China

Currently serves as the Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University

His research focuses on circular economy, industrial ecology, environmental management, and climate change policy. He is a Highly Cited Researcher globally recognized by Clarivate Analytics and Elsevier's Most Cited Chinese Researcher. He has served as a lead author for the Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He has published over 300 articles in international journals such as Science and Nature. He has been selected for the National Millions of Talents Project, recognized as a leading professional in technical expertise by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and honored as an outstanding academic leader in Shanghai.

Keun Lee

Distinguished Professor in the Department of Economics at Seoul National University, Editor-in-Chief of Research Policy, Deputy Editor of Industrial and Corporate Change, Member of the World Economic Forum’s Council. Professor Lee served as President of the International Schumpeter Society (2016-2018) and as a member of the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (2014-2018). His book, Schumpeterian Analysis of Economic Catch-up (Cambridge University Press, 2013), won the 2014 Schumpeter Prize. Professor Lee received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. His paper “Korea’s Technological Catch-up,” published in Research Policy, has been cited over 1,100 times. Additionally, 97 of his papers have been cited more than 10 times each, with an H-index of 37.

Long Yin

Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo, Doctoral Supervisor, JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Outstanding Research Fellow and University of Tokyo Outstanding Research Fellow, Previously worked at the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan

Currently serves as an Editor for Global Environmental Change under Elsevier. In the past five years, he has published over 70 SCI/SSCI indexed articles in journals such as One Earth (a Cell Press journal) and Nature Climate Change. He has received two scholarships from Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). In 2022, his lab received funding from the JSPS Outstanding Researcher Program and the School of Engineering Start-Up Fund. His research focuses on quantifying and modeling carbon emissions from the consumption side and studying sustainable dietary transitions in households.

Lu Yonglong

Ph.D., Chair Professor at Xiamen University, Dean of the College of Environment and Ecology at Xiamen University, Distinguished Research Fellow at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)

Doctoral Supervisor.

Elected as a Fellow of Academia Europaea in 2019 and as a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) in 2022. He has long been engaged in research on environmental geography, sustainable ecology, and environmental ecology. He has led or participated in over 40 national key R&D programs, major basic research programs, key national special projects, major international cooperation projects, and key national foundation projects. He has published over 250 papers in SCI-indexed journals such as Science, Nature, Science Advances, PNAS, and Nature Communications, and has authored 17 monographs in Chinese and English. He is a highly cited researcher in the field of ecology.

Currently, he serves as a member of the United Nations Secretary-General's 10-Member Group to support the Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM) for sustainable development, President of the Pacific Science Association (PSA), former President of the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE), member of the international expert group of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Vice President of the Ecological Society of China, and Executive Director and Chair of the Eco-environmental Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development.

He is the Deputy Editor of Science Advances, Founding Editor-in-Chief of Ecosystem Health and Sustainability, and Deputy Editor of Environmental Development. He has received numerous honors, including the CAS Science and Technology Progress Award (Second and Third Class), the National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class), the SCOPE Distinguished Achievement Award, the International Contribution Award for Green Design, the CAS Award for Promoting Development through Science and Technology, and the Outstanding Contribution Award of Scientific Chinese.

Xia Yang

Shunsuke Managi

Professor at Kyushu University, Japan. He has received multiple national research grants, focusing on topics such as urbanization, transportation, energy, climate change, sustainability, urbanization, and population change. He has been awarded research scholarships by various organizations and serves as an expert in energy and environmental policy. He is the Editor of Environmental Economic and Policy Studies and serves on the editorial board of six journals including Resource and Energy Economics. He is also a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Wang Yutao

Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Fudan University, Vice Dean of the Shanghai Institute of Energy and Carbon Reduction Strategy at Fudan University, Executive Vice Director of the Fudan Tyndall Centre, Co-Editor of the Journal of Cleaner Production and Editorial Board Member of China Environmental Management and other academic journals. Chairman of the International Chinese Society of Industrial Ecology (CSIE), Deputy Director of the Industrial Ecology Professional Committee of the Ecological Society of China, and Deputy Secretary-General of the Energy Economics Branch of the China "Dual Law" Research Association. Recipient of the National Excellent Young Scientist Fund, National Outstanding Youth, and the UK Newton Advanced Fellowship.

Engaged in research on regional ecological environmental systems engineering, with recent focus on green "Belt and Road" and clean production, climate change adaptation, biomass resources, and ecological products. Received funding for multiple key national projects. Published over 100 academic papers in journals such as Nature Communications.

Xu Ming

Chair Professor of Carbon Neutrality at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University, Vice Dean of the School of Environment, Tsinghua University, Leader of the Environmental Data Science and Systems Engineering Team, Changjiang Chair Professor, Formerly a professor at the School for Environment and Sustainability and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Recipient of the Laudise Award, the Young Scientist Award from the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE) in 2015, the first ethnic Chinese recipient since the establishment of the award.

Elected President of the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE) for the term 2023-2024, the first ethnic Chinese to hold this position since the establishment of the society. Deputy Secretary-General of the Water Environment and Aquatic Ecology Branch of the Chinese Urban Science Research Association. Zhang Bing

Zhang Junjie

Professor of Environmental Policy at Duke Kunshan University, Director of the Sustainable Investment Research Project. Professor at the Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University, Prior to joining Duke Kunshan University, he was an Associate Professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy, University of California, San Diego. He also served as a Visiting Professor of Sustainable Development at the Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University.

Dr. Zhang Junjie established and leads the Environmental Research Center and the Master of Environmental Policy Program at Duke Kunshan University. His recent research focuses on empirical issues related to climate change, green finance, and ESG. He has received funding from prestigious institutions such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Science Foundation of the United States, the Energy Foundation, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank. He has been awarded research grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China for four consecutive years to study the impact of climate transition risks on business operations.

Zhang Peng

Associate Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Deputy Editor of the top-tier journal Journal of Development Economics in the field of Development Economics, Deputy Editor of the SSCI authoritative journal China Economic Review, Recipient of the Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund.

Dr. Zhang Peng's research focuses on Environmental Economics, Development Economics, Labor Economics, and Health Economics.  His papers have been published in journals such as Journal of Political Economy Microeconomics, The Economic Journal, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Development Economics (6 papers), Journal of Environmental Economics and Management (3 papers), Nature Sustainability, and World Economy. Dr. Zhang Peng obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in June 2016, and served as Assistant Professor of Economics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2016 to 2020.

Zhu Qinghua

Chair Professor at the Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Recipient of the National Distinguished Young Scientist Foundation in 2010, Leader of the Innovative Research Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2022, Member of the Eighth Discipline Review Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.

His main research interests include Green Supply Chain Management, Corporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and Remanufacturing Management. He has served as the principal investigator for 10 national projects, including the National Distinguished Young Scientist Foundation, the Innovative Research Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Additionally, he has undertaken 9 provincial and ministerial-level projects, as well as numerous international cooperation and government commissioned projects.

His achievements have been rated as "excellent" in three post-evaluations of the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Youth Fund and General Program. Summaries of his achievements have been included in the Annual Report of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2007.

Conference Introduction:

 The 2024 Asian Sustainable Development Conference will be held in Songdo, South Korea, to celebrate its tenth anniversary. Co-hosted by the East Asian Environmental Research Center at Renhe University and the Institute of Blue-Green Development at Shandong University, the conference aims to explore and promote innovation and progress in sustainable development in the Asian region. This year's conference theme is "New Models of Sustainable Development in Asia: The Role of New Quality Productivity," focusing on the crucial role and potential of new quality productivity in advancing sustainable development. This theme emphasizes the importance of technological innovation, policy formulation, and business model innovation, aiming to provide a platform for delegates to engage in in-depth discussions, exchange experiences, and explore cooperation opportunities, collectively charting the future path of sustainable development.

The forum is dedicated not only to facilitating international exchanges and collaborations among experts and scholars in related fields but also to providing a platform for domestic and international outstanding graduate students to engage in thought collisions and academic consultation. Through a diverse range of conference formats such as keynote speeches, panel presentations, and student presentations, the forum will bring together the wisdom and experience of global experts and scholars to jointly explore this regionally important issue.

The "2024 East Asian Sustainable Development Forum" is not only an interdisciplinary and diversified international academic event but also an important opportunity to promote international cooperation and development in the fields of regional green development and low-carbon transformation. We sincerely invite experts, scholars, policymakers, and industry leaders from around the world to participate in this grand event. By sharing experiences, discussing issues, and exchanging viewpoints, we hope to build consensus, promote cooperation, and contribute wisdom and strength to the sustainable development of resources and the environment in East Asia.

(1)   Korean Gastronomy:

A themed academic conference segment featuring a Korean-style banquet will offer attendees a unique cultural experience. Korean-style banquets are a traditional cultural experience, reflecting South Korea's rich history and unique cultural atmosphere. At such a banquet, attendees will have the opportunity to savor traditional Korean cuisine while experiencing the charm of Korean culture.

The banquet menu will showcase a variety of exquisite Korean dishes, each paying homage to the traditional culinary arts of Korea.

Beyond the culinary delights, the banquet provides an excellent opportunity for attendees to network and interact. In this delightful atmosphere, attendees can freely exchange ideas, share research findings, and academic insights, fostering scholarly exchange and collaboration.

(2)   Seoul Metropolitan Area Environmental Research:

Conducting urban environmental research in the Seoul Metropolitan Area will be a significant academic endeavor, delving deep into urban development and environmental governance. Urban environmental research in South Korea is a traditional method of exploring cities, notable for its uniqueness and significance. In the Seoul Metropolitan Area, environmental research primarily focuses on Seoul and its surrounding areas, which serve as the core of South Korea's politics, economy, and culture, bearing crucial responsibilities for urban development and environmental governance.

As one of Asia's significant cities, Incheon's urban environment research and governance have garnered considerable attention. Scholars and experts participating in the research will have the opportunity to visit the headquarters of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Suwon Eco Park to observe waste treatment and energy conversion facilities firsthand, as well as the application of environmental protection technologies. They will also explore cultural landmarks such as the Incheon Open Port Area and the Incheon Landing Memorial Hall.

Participants will also visit Seoul, where they will tour Seoul National University, immersing themselves in its rich academic atmosphere and experiencing the unique cultural heritage of South Korean universities. They will visit the Blue House and Gyeongbokgung Palace and have the opportunity to conduct research at Samsung Group. Exploring various corners of the city, they will observe urban development and changes, gaining insights into the current state and challenges of urban environments. This research initiative will also become an academic tradition, attracting active participation from individuals across different disciplines and fields.

Throughout the research process, participants will engage in in-depth discussions and interactions with stakeholders, sharing their perspectives and experiences. This research endeavor promises to be a memorable academic experience, enriching participants' academic lives and research endeavors.
